The Sechelt Arts Festival Presents:
MARGIE GILLIS: Florilège
Guest Artist Performance Event
40 years retrospective show by Margie Gillis & Co
Internationally acclaimed, Montreal-based, solo modern dancer/choreographer, Knight of the Ordre national du Québec and Officer of the Order of Canada, Margie Gillis, in her first appearance on the Sunshine Coast, will present Florilège, an evening of her choreographic poems celebrating 40 years of her professional career.
Florilège is a journey through time that provides a brief overview of some of Margie’s most emblematic works, presenting a new interpretation of her work, enriched by the veneer of maturity that comes with age and the experience of the dancing body, and in perfect cohesion with the spirit of theatricality that is part and parcel of her dance. Unwaveringly, she continues to develop her craft through experimenting, teaching and creating.
Margie has invited a number of BC-Based and Canadian contemporary dancers to join her on stage to present some of her iconic works, including: Loon, Woods, Little Animal, Bloom and Waltzing Matilda. The ensemble cast will include: Holly Bright (Crimson Coast), Caitlin Griffin, Ruth Levin, Makaila Wallace and the Sunshine Coast’s Katherine Denham. This will be a very special once-in-a-life-time presentation for our community, not to be missed
