Every year the Sunshine Coast Dance Society strives to present dance performances that will entertain and challenge audiences, and support emerging dancers and dance students through a variety of events and programs.
For the past seven years the SCDS Annual Dance Residency program has offered professional choreographers and multi-media dance artists from all over Canada the opportunity to come to the Sunshine Coast to create new works, workshop with local dancers and present exciting performances of their work to the community at the end of their residency.
Throughout the year the Sunshine Coast Dance Society brings professional artists to the coast on a regular basis to present dance students and the community with fresh, relevant and dynamic professional performances. Performances we would otherwise have to leave the coast to see. Groups such as Vancouver’s The Source Dance Company, Move: the company, The Tomorrow Collective, and independent artists such as Brianna Stark, Alison Denham, Andrea Nann, and Sylvain Brochu, to name a few.
An important part of the SCDS mandate is to provide on-going encouragement for dance education through our scholarship program. This much-needed financial assistance goes to promising students, allowing them to attend intensive and pre-professional classes in Vancouver and elsewhere in B.C.
