History

The Sunshine Coast Dance Society (SCDS) was formed in 1993 by the late coast resident and National Ballet alumni Lois Smith, and 2013 marked the society’s 20thAnniversary.

 The Sunshine Coast Dance Society’s (SCDS) purpose as a Society is to present all forms of dance at a professional level, provide career development opportunities for students and teachers of dance, and to enrich the cultural life of the Sunshine Coast. As such, the SCDS’s main goals are to:

a) Increase awareness and appreciation of dance as a valued social, cultural and unifying performing arts vehicle for everyone on the Sunshine Coast.

b) Offer training and performance opportunities for local dancers and dance enthusiasts via workshops, annual residency program, scholarships and presenting live professional calibre stage productions.

c) Work cooperatively with other arts organizations and presenters of art in supporting all performing arts on the Sunshine Coast..
